Snore Guard Reviews – Snoring Cures
When I started my research on Snore Guard I was very surprised to see that it has been on the market since 1989.
Have to take my hat off to the people at Snore Guard for making a successful stop snoring device. Despite whether you or I think it is something we would try or not, people must have been using it for it to be still on the market.
The other point which is important to note about its longevity, is that it must work.
In the tradition of other reviews on this website, it is important I ask you to read the article I have written titled Sleep Apnea Is Linked To Cancer. Without trying to frighten anyone, it is important you are familiar with the May 2012 report detailing a study conducted in the USA involving 1522 people over 22 years, linking Sleep Apnea and heavy snoring to Cancer. Please make sure you read it before you leave the website.

In this Snore Guard review I will address the following points:
- How Popular Is Snore Guard
- What Is Snore Guard And How Does It Work
- Does Snore Guard Work
- Cost of Snore Guard
- Positives And Negatives Of Snore Guard
- My Conclusion / Recommendation
How Popular Is Snore Guard
I mentioned above that Snore Guard has been marketed since 1989 and I was surprised to find on the Google Adwords keyword tracker, that it only has 6600 worldwide searches each month. I am not exactly sure why but I am going to make an educated guess as to why I think this is the case.
- It is only sold in Canada and the USA.
- It appears the mouthpiece can be purchased online in Canada but not the USA. No prescription is necessary for purchase and delivery in Canada.
- The USA sales are only generated through Dentists and Physicians. The USA online market is ten times bigger than Canada.
- According to the search trends on Google, the number of searches has doubled since 2004 but they are still nowhere near the numbers of its competitors.

What Is Snore Guard And How Does It Work
Snoring originates from the back of the throat. It is caused by partially blocked airways. When you sleep, you relax and so do the muscles and soft tissues in the back of the mouth and throat causing the tongue, upper throat, uvula and soft palate to rub together creating vibrations and noise.

Snore Guard works by retaining the jaw in a slightly forward position [approx 1mm - 3mm] while you sleep. This is called mandibular repositioning and has the effect of keeping your airway open so soft tissue at the back of the throat doesn’t vibrate and cause snoring.
We do not snore when we are awake and upright and so Snore Guard keeps the jaw in the same exact position it is in during waking periods. Snore Guard therefore, does not believe it is necessary to protrude the mandible or lower jaw forward to a large extent, except in very rare cases when the lower teeth will not position in the lower tray without engaging the hard plastic.

Does Snore Guard Work
The below text is straight off the Snore Guard website so you can read how they are promoting the device. The references are from various studies completed between 1990 and 1995.
Users of Snore Guard report significant improvement of sleep quality and a return of symptoms when it’s not used.
- 99% reported reduced snoring and 50% reported elimination of snoring
- 80% reported decreased sleep disturbance with treatment
- A study of 75 people wearing the device showed snoring improved in all patients except one, and sleep quality and sleepiness also improved.
It is important to put these statistics into context when reviewing the website. Be careful not to misinterpret the 99% quote on the website.
The bottom line is, Snore Guard has helped people who use it. To what extent depends on the individual.

Cost Of Snore Guard
If You Live In Canada
There are two ways you can buy from the Snore Guard website if you are in Canada.
1. You can take the 30 day trial offer for $7.95 and then if you are happy with it you will automatically pay the additional $59.90 once the trial period expires, usually on day 31.
2. You can purchase the device immediately for $59.90 plus shipping and processing of $7.95. If you are not happy with the device within the 30 day money back guarantee you can return it.
You can also take up the option of buying a second device at the same time as the initial purchase for $39.95 for no additional S&P.
Please Note: Shipping and Processing is not refunded if you return the device.
If You Live In The USA
If you are in the USA then you have to purchase your Snore Guard from participating Dentists and Physicians. Unfortunately there is nowhere on the website that tells you who is a participating Dentist or Physician nor does it elude to the price in US dollars.
The US website simply says ” If you live in the US – ask your Dentist for a prescription for Snore Guard”. This is because they do not have the specific US license to sell Snore Guard over the internet.
I have to say this is disappointing, because many of its competitors have the US license. Unfortunately I cannot find out the price unless I walk into one of the participating outlets. It leads me to think that each of the outlets in the US will charge their own price. In this day and age of the internet I am not sure this is helpful.
Readers Contribution
- I have been told by a Snore Guard customer they are available at Shoppers Drug Mart for $39.95. Thanks Barb.
- Available at London Drugs for $49.99 or SuperStore for $47.99 Winnipeg. Both stores have a 14 money back guarantee. Thanks Jerald
Positives And Negatives Of Snore Guard
Snore Guard Positives
Has been around since 1989 – this is the oldest product I have seen.
Has a soft molding to hold the upper teeth and a smaller molding on the lower extender ramp. This is important and helps with comfort and easy fit.
Has a 30 day money back guarantee. I also like the 30 trial they are using. Trails are becoming popular. Well done to the company for using the trial marketing option.
Price is very competitive at $59.90 + $7.95 S&P in Canada. I do like the option to buy the additional unit for $39.95.
Has FDA clearance – this is always a great tick to have as a manufacturer of one of these devices.
Looks good and has smooth edges which will not rub on the gum.
The websites are great. They are well designed and have excellent graphics.
Snore Guard Negatives
It is only available online in Canada – I really do not like this at all. One of the biggest market in the world, the USA with approximately 331 million people, cannot buy this device on the internet. I am aware that in the USA, a prescription is required to be able to buy a stop snoring mouthpiece. Many of the Snore Guard competitors have a work around for this. Why hasn’t Snore Guard.
The design is old and in my opinion needs updating. I am not fussed on the extender ramp that is designed to hold the lower jaw still or in an advanced position.
I have not been able to ascertain the USA price for the mouthpiece.
You would have to presume that by having to go to a Dentist or Physician to purchase Snore Guard if you lived in the USA that it will add to the overall price.
There is not enough forward movement of the mandibular available with this device. I am certainly not the expert on the design of stop snoring devices but all the latest designs are focused on the forward placement of the mandibular [lower jaw] to ensure the air passages open effectively. The ones I have used have been designed around this.
There is no international marketing strategy like many of its competitors. Only sold in Canada and the USA.
People who wear dentures should be aware that the forward positioning mandibular mouthpieces are not recommended as they can dislodge the dentures plus they can adversely effect the structural integrity of the denture. Snore Guard is a forward positioning mandibular mouthpiece.
I am sitting on the fence with this one to be honest. On one side Snore Guard has been around for ages [1989] and must still be selling to justify its longevity, but on the other side the design is outdated and the company is letting itself down by not making itself available on the internet.
Overall it is still worth a thumbs up for being around for so long. ![]()
A Sleep Aid To Compliment Snore Guard
In addition to the snoring issue you have it is totally likely you find it difficult to actually nod off to sleep in good time each night.
If you are looking for something that will help you do this and even help your partner experience a better sleep, then I would recommend you read the article I have written about Alteril Sleep Aid.
It is a natural sleep aid and is very popular and has a good “Working” feedback report.
Click on the blue link above and see what you think.
My Conclusion / Recommendation
It is obvious Snore Guard works. If it has been marketed since 1989 and is still available then it must work. There are testimonials on the website to confirm it works as well.
If you like the look of it and you live in Canada, then you are going to be more likely to consider it, but I am suggesting the rest may consider other options.
If you are like me and you are open to consider all your options then I would recommend you read my SnoreRx Reviews first. It is my preferred mouthpiece because it is extra comfortable and you have full control of the forward and backward movement of the mandibular. No other design allows this function.
In terms of Google search volumes, the most popular mandibular mouthpiece on the market is ZQuiet. It is a very simple but extremely effective design and is also a mandibular mouthpiece. It would be worth your while to read my ZQuiet review as well.
Both are good products and I have used both successfully.
For People Wearing Dentures
If you are someone who is not into mouthpieces for whatever reason or you are someone who wears a FULL denture then I would recommend you take a look at My Snoring Solution, which is a chin strap and so comfortable to wear.
OR
Good Morning Snore Solution, which is another mouthpiece but is NOT a mandibular mouthpiece. I really like this one because it is a great alternative for people who wear dentures or have expensive dental work and don’t wish to risk the pressure that a mandibular mouthpiece can place on the teeth. It has an incredibly low return rate of 2% and is accompanied by a 30 day money back guarantee, and your choice of FREE postage……..plus they sometimes promote a 2 for 1 offer.
Either way, don’t forget to read my report on Sleep Apnea Is Linked To Cancer before you leave the site
PS: If you are in the States and you know the price of Snore Guard – can you let me know please.

About Peter

Thanks for the review. BTW in Oct 2012 I have seen this product with the travel case on a retail shelf at Great Canadian Superstore (Loblaws) for 47.99
Hi Stephen
Thanks for the feedback. Did you happen to notice/remember the cost?
Peter
I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada. And it is sold at most stores, Walmart, London drugs, Super Store and shoppers drug mart. Under 50.00 with travel case.
Thanks for the info Corinne.
Sounds like a good deal. I wonder if they give you the 30 day guarantee by purchasing over the counter.
I just bought a SnoreGuard for my partner who wears dentures, which tend to come loose when he snores. Is the device not recommended for him at all, or what are the risks? BTW I got it at Shoppers Drug Mart on sale for 39.95.
Hi Barb
The mouthpieces that work by moving the lower jaw or mandibular in a forward/advanced position are generally not recommended for use by people who wear dentures. Snore Guard does move the mandibular forward slightly so I would suggest it could be an issue for your partner particularly if the dentures become loose during sleep already. The pressure on the denture by these types of mouthpieces can dislodge them from the mouth plus they could damage the structure of the denture.
The one I would recommend you look at is the Good Morning Snore Solution. I have written an article about it. Click the link below.

If this is not to your liking then perhaps the chin strap might be.

Thanks for the feedback on price and location of your Snore Guard purchase as well Barb.
All the best.
Peter
Is there anyway for me living in US to purchase snore guard from shoppers drug mart at $40? Or a similar site at a similar price?
Hi John
It will be a hit and miss attempt John. Barb was good enough to provide the location and price but availability will depend on the individual store. I have not unfortunately been able to ascertain from Snore Guard the exact location of their outlets.
Perhaps you could try one of the others. I have included a SnoreRx “Holiday Season” discount coupon code on the page http://mystopsnoringsolutions.com/snorerx-reviews-snoring-cures/ if that interests you. Appears to be very popular leading up to the end of 2012.
Apologies for not being able to nail that answer better mate.
Had bought this Snoreguard as well as the Puresleep devices. Both work well and cost about the same. I found the Snoreguard to have minimal size and smaller between the two for comparison. And beneficial as well as easier to care for the Snoreguard versus the Puresleep in cleaning overall. The travel case is smaller as well.
I can testify between the two of Snoreguard and Puresleep that Snoreguard does have it’s advantages. I sleep better and feel better rested while I use Snoreguard. Inherited snoring, tense jawline and clench teeth in sleep as well as have sleep apnia so I have had restlessness. I’d wake up grumpy, more tired and jaw was constantly sore due to teeth clenching during sleep I had to practically apply muscle cream to jaw muscles just to ease tension. And when I finally did fall into deep sleep my snoring would disrupt my spouse.
With Snoreguard the benefits are overall it is smaller and does the same job, if not better in my opinion. Travel case is smaller as well. Less obstruction in mouth, fits more comfortably, lighter than any other snore devices.
Only drawback of Snoreguard is the human error. The error I made was due to unfamiliarity and inexperience in the device fitting. My dog chewed two devices (she’s very good at finding things) and I had to reorder this and learnt to properly fit by trial and error.
First device I bit too hard and sunk teeth too deep and ended up with plastic moulding that supports the softer support of teeth was digging into palate and gums. It was hurting so I had to manually trim this rigid part, but it fit well once tweaked.
Second device was fitted nicely. I do feel that perhaps if I had just slightly moved my lower jaw forward in fitting as well as biting down on lower part may enhance comfort.
Due to overall comfort, size, solution and added benefits guaranteed my personal experience with this snore device as a great buy overall in comparison to others. Great value, great fit and comfort as it really did alter my life quality and no lies but this does actually work. And I’m picky and cheap about shopping so I was surprised in benefits. Less tension in jaw, rested and my spouse gets to rest too (sheepish grin)
Some great feedback about Snore Guard. Just goes to show you each and every one of us has good and bad experiences with these anti snoring devices. The important thing to remember is that they do work for the vast majority of us and we will find one that suits our individual taste.
Thanks for taking the time to provide the great feedback.
readily available at london drugs($49.99) or superstore($47.99) in winnipeg
each store has a 14 day return policy no questions asked so if it doesn’t work for you then its no hassle you get your money back don’t order on line
Hi Jerald
Thanks for your contribution.
Peter
It appears you can order the Snore Guard online for $99.99 at smilox.com. There’s no mention of a return policy though. I put in a US shipping address, and it provides a shipping estimate. My dentist wants $250 for the appliance and fitting of the device.
Hi Larry
Many thanks for the info. It is an interesting comparison point you make about the cost of these mouthpieces verses the dentist designed ones. Initially some of the mouthpieces may seem pricey, until you start talking to your dentist and find out what they charge.
